June Build Night Banner 2013

The Maker’s Local 256 Monthly Build Night for July is this weekend! The theme for July is “Sugru Moldable Rubber”, and this time, Instructables sent us some free Sugru to use in our projects! In case you’ve never heard of Sugru, it is a “multi-purpose, non-slumping brand of silicone rubber that resembles modeling clay”, and can be used for all sorts of projects and repairs, from fixing your phone charge cable to creating robot parts.

The structure of this Build Night will be similar to our first, except that the Instructables we’ll need to make have to involve the Sugru in some way. We’ll need to submit five Instructables from the night.

Build Night will be on Saturday, July 20th from 1PM to 11PM. More info on the event can be found on the ML256 Wiki Page.

It’s that time of year again! Retro Game and Computing Night 2013 is upon us. We are allowing all games and systems released pre-2000.

There will be all kinds of systems and games, SNES, SEGA, NES, GameBoy, Atari, as well as Amigas and other computers.  We may even have a LAN setup for old school games like Duke Nukem 3D and Starcraft.  We will also have the grill going.  Feel free to bring your own systems and/or games and food to share.

Please come join us, play some games, meet new people and see our new space.  Also, remember your donations will help us continue to do events like these.

June Build Night Banner 2013

If you haven’t checked it out already, you can see the list of projects from May’s Build Night on the Maker’s Local wiki page for the event!

This month’s Build Night is coming up! The theme for June is 3D Modeling and Printing, and Instructables is offering us $150 in credit on Shapeways for creating some really neat 3D-printed objects! This month works a little differently: Build Night will be spent mostly designing and modeling 3D items in various CAD software packages. We’ll then post all of our 3D models to a gallery on Instructables and share them with the community! We will then pick a few models to send off to Shapeways to get printed for us, and write at least two Instructables that use these printed objects or the models themselves.

May Build Night Banner 2013

Instructables is sponsoring their first monthly “Build Night” at makerspaces and hackerspaces around the country, and Makers Local 256 has been selected to participate! They’re hooking us up with materials and pizza – in exchange we will post new Instructables based on work done during the Build Night. The theme for May is conductive paint from Bare Conductive, so bring your ideas and create something awesome! Your idea does not necessarily need to involve the conductive paint; all types of projects are welcome! Build Night will be on Saturday, May 18th from 1PM to 10PM, with pizza at 6PM.
