Recorded on February 8th, 2011. Jimshoe, Brimstone, Nykodemus, Just Tuttle, Alii, Crashcart bring you yet another Hackerspace Digest. Alii describes the Makers’ recent pig roast and tech expo. Brimstone talks about Thingaday and 091 Labs’ Movie night. The group talks about the movie nights they’ve had before, and about bringing them back. Brimstone tries to get others interested in a coworking day like 091 Labs. The group also debates Hack Clubs verses Hackerspaces. The group remembers the Two Hands project coming to their hackerspace and is excited to hear that the footage will finally get edited. Upcoming events (all of which have passed since the time of this writing 🙁 ) include: Outerz0ne, which the group has enjoyed in the pas and Notacon, which the group has not attended before. Other events include the 555 contest and Hive 76’s Open house. Nykodemus gets everyone interested in Open Source Ecology.

Show notes are on the wiki, as usual.

It’s that time of year again! Retro Game and Computing Night 2011 is upon us. We have raised the games and system limits up a bit this year. We are allowing all games and systems released pre-2000.  Though that isn’t entirely true, Duke Nukem Forever has been grandfathered in for obvious reasons.

There will be all kinds of systems and games, SNES, SEGA, NES, GameBoy, Atari, as well as Amigas and other computers.  We may even have a LAN setup for old school games like Duke Nukem 3D and Starcraft.  We will also have the grill going and a keg chilling.  Feel free to bring your own systems and/or games and food to share.

Please come join us, play some games, meet new people and see our new space.  Also, remember your donations will help us continue to do events like these.

If you aren’t in the IRC channel with us or otherwise paying attention to the mailing list, or if you’re just joining us, we have a new shop over in Five Points at 414 Stevens Avenue, just down the street from Po Boy Factory. We’ve just about moved everything and it’s currently filling up the nice big work floor, so for the time being it might be difficult to find a place to work…or the tools to work with. Many hands make light work though, so come on by to help us sort!

Brimstone, Darkjedi, Strages, Crashcart are back again with episode 008. Recorded February 1st, 2011. Crashcart talks about the Evalbot and it’s contest. Crashcart attempts to describe the carnage of our first cupcake for the Global Hackerspace Challenge. Brimstone raves access control in a number of spaces. Brimstone also talks about Noisebridge’s Drama and Strages explains inventory systems across spaces. Strages introduces the Huntsville Open Manufacturing Meetup. Show notes are on our wiki.

Come one, come all.
See the wonders of ancient 3D printers unearthed at the Makers Local 256!
Be amazed by a printing technology unseen since nineteen hundred and ninety seven A.D.!
Marvel at the rugged construction that can be left in a barn for nearly 15 years!
Gasp as this once dormant design device springs to life, fresh from the packaging*
See it live tonight only! (videos posted later this week)

Today, May 16th, After our regular monthly meeting, We will be throwing a little party to celebrate unboxing of a BPM 2100 Personal Modeler that we received last week, still in it’s original shipping create. Meeting starts at 7:30pm, the event will be directly after the meeting finishes. Drink a beer, reminisce about the 90’s, and talk 3D printers until we get tired and go home. (some of us have to work in the morning, I know.)

Moe is waiting to be unpacked, Curly's broken, but it's ok, Shemp can step up to keep things running.

*This printer is not guaranteed functional or “fresh”. Packaging is open to the elements. Frankly it’s a long shot, but hey, we’ve got ~4 of these puppies, and we can probably get one of them moving again that night.

Oh, and by the way… We have moved and will hold the meeting and the party at the new shop:
