Makers Local has been Geocached!
Recently, Ratmandu, one of our members noticed some strange people lurking around the outside of the Make Shop. Hobo with a knife? No! Geocachers!
Destination Huntsville Geocache
Someone in Huntsville saw TheMostBob’s google pin on the side of the new Make Shop and thought near the makeshop would be a great place for a new cache 🙂
For those who are not familiar, Geocaches are locations where GPS enthusiasts will leave a container, and then publish the coordinates on the internet. Geocachers plug those coordinates into their GPS devices and do their best to find the containers. More information on the hobby can be found here: http://www.geocaching.com
Board Elections Tuesday 10/20
The Makers Local 256 will be holding board elections at the upcoming General Meeting next week, which will be Tuesday 10/20.
Here’s some important changes that came with the new bylaws: http://256.makerslocal.org/wiki/index.php/Bylaws
- Board and Officer terms are for 6 months
- The size of the board is no longer restricted to 10 members, it can be as small as three, or as large as needs be.
- To be elected to the board, you must receive at least 50% ‘yay’ votes from those voting.
- To be elected, you must have been a member for at least three consecutive months preceding the election
- Only members may vote in the board elections.
Voting will be secret ballot.
Homebrew Cola this Friday
This Friday, at 6 pm we’re going to brew our own carbonated sodas at the Make Shop. It’s a surprisingly easy process, and shouldn’t take longer than an hour or two to make about a gallon. If you’re interested, all you need to bring is a clean bottle and some ingredients. There are specific recipes all over the internet, but I’ll be providing some basics from a recipe I found:
•white sugar
•brown sugar
•cinnamon
•maple syrup
•vanilla
•nutmeg
•honey
I hope I see you there.
