[hide]Overview
The local chapter of the National Space Society, HAL5 is hosting the 2011 International Space Development Conference (ISDC) in Huntsville, AL. This conference attracts astronauts, scientists, entrepreneurs, government officials, activists and citizens of this planet who look forward to the opening of the "final frontier" to discover the future of space exploration. Yohan Lo, the local HAL5 president and ISDC organizer, is looking to give Makers Local 256 a table to present the hackerspace and what we do. In exchange, we can have a reduced price by volunteering services. This would be an excellent opportunity for Makers Local 256 to reach out and represent the hacker/maker community.
Calendar
- March 15, 2011: Soft Due Date for Makers Local 256 and HAL5 to come to an agreement.
- April 1, 2011: Hard Due Date and Signature Deadline for Makers Local 256-HAL5 Contract for ISDC.
- May 18, 2011: ISDC Conference, Huntsville, AL, Von Braun Center & Embassy Suite Hotel and Spa. http://isdc.nss.org/2011/
To Do
- Gather volunteers and projects for presentation.
- Contact Yohan Lo for more information. Spacefelix is POC.
- Do our research on reducing the cost as much as possible and getting as many amenities as we can for the table (e.g. power). Formalize deal with HAL5.
Current Terms & Proposed Contracts
- International Space Development Conference (ISDC) 2011, in Huntsville's Von Braun Center, May 18-22.
- The International Space Development Conference (ISDC, http://isdc.nss.org/2011/) for 2011 in Huntsville's Von Braun Center has asked us to assist them with a break room at their conference in May from Wednesday the 18th to Sunday the 22nd. In exchange, we will get a non-profit presentation table/booth for free.
- This is a HUGE conference that attracts the international space community from big players and professionals in space exploration to space enthusiasts. It would be a great opportunity for Makers Local 256 to present themselves to a larger technical community and to a good majority of Huntsville technical talent.
- However, ISDC has asked us to sign a formal contract with them (services in exchange for a presentation space). We must decide what we can provide to ISDC for the duration of the conference and write that into the contract. They are expecting a draft contract by 3/15/11 and a signed commitment by 4/1/11.
- The current proposed contract is as so;
- For the duration of ISDC 2011 in May from Wednesday the 18th to Sunday the 22nd:
- Makers Local 256 provides to ISDC at no cost:
- A computer or AV projector that can be hooked up to wifi or game console that is bright enough to be seen in a moderately-lit room.
- X-box or equivalent game console.
- Provide non-violent games or family friendly games along with associated hardware.
- A Projection Screen.
- OPTIONAL BONUS - Internet Cafe - Ensure the computers are secure.
- ISDC Provides to Makers Local 256 at no cost:
- A non-profit presentation table (6') or booth (10'x10') for free.
- Original cost is $250 for a table and $300 for a booth.
- No electricity provided to the presentation table/booth, we will need to pay extra for a hookup. <- Arrange with Yohan juice or no since we need it for the game room.
- For convenience, we can get the presentation table by the break room.
- Two Exhibitor Badges granting free access to the conference. We can share them amongst ourselves when we take breaks.
- A non-profit presentation table (6') or booth (10'x10') for free.
- Times of the Conference:
- May 18 - setup day
- May 19-21 - 8 am to 6 pm
- May 22 - 8 am - 12 pm
- May 22 - after 12 pm, tear down
- Makers Local 256 provides to ISDC at no cost:
- For the duration of ISDC 2011 in May from Wednesday the 18th to Sunday the 22nd:
- The current proposed contract is as so;
Reducing The Price Further
- As we are a 501(c)3 charitable organization, we ought to be able to reduce our costs further with HAL5.
- There is a category for educational societies to have a reduced price for a table on the exhibition floor. Do we qualify for this? We will need to ask Yohan and ISDC organizers if this is possible. However, if we can get it all for free; admission for each volunteer, a table AND power, etc. by just volunteering our services, then this is moot.
- As the current contract does not provide power to the table without additional cost, can we cut a deal for power for free?
