Overview

Everyone that's played Dance Dance Revolution knows the difference between those flimsy dance pad controllers you play with at home and the actual, sturdy, metal and wood arcade machine. Buying a better dance pad deck is expensive and buying the full arcade machine even more so. Why not use the tools and resources available at your local hackerspace to build your own dance deck!

Here's a handy website with measurements etc you'll need to build your own:

Here is a great website where someone else already built one!

One quick idea would be to build an HDF frame with metal brackets to hold it together then just staple a vinyl dance pad to it. Careful not to staple important wires! Then put a nice metal frame around the borders of the buttons like the arcade. Instead of metal we could use plexiglas and cut it out on the CNC table.

Another idea is to make it portable so it would come apart in some modular way. Perhaps each side fits together like a sliding puzzle or each foot button is its own module?

It would need to have a removable handle bar for the back of the pad so you can have it as an option in case you don't want it to get in the way of your sweet spin moves and to keep it portable.
