Revision 0 NN/NN/2024 POLICY FOR SOUTH BEND 9A LATHE USERS Makers Local 256
Definitions Member – A member in good standing as accepted by the Makers Local 256 board Approved Member – A Makers Local 256 member in good standing who has completed lathe safety training and orientation to the Makers Local South Bend 9A Lathe. Board – the Makers Local 256 Board of Directors Facilities Director – A member of the board in the Role of Facilities Director
GENERAL TERMS Makers Local 256 provides the South Bend 9A lathe and accessories for use by Approved Members. The lathe is provided AS IS and the approved member is aware that all use of the lathe is AT THE USERS OWN RISK. The member agrees that Makers Local 256, it’s board, officers and other members will be held harmless in the event of injuries to the approved member.
APPROVED MEMBER
A member wishing to use the South Bend 9A lathe shall attain and be certified to Approved Member status prior to lathe access. The requirements for Approved Member status are as follows:
1) Shall be a member of Makers Local in good standing 2) Shall have a demonstrated history of mature behavior 3) Shall complete Maker Local 256 selected Lathe Safety Training Videos 4) Shall familiarize themselves with the South Bend 9A manuals and guide 5) Shall complete an orientation session with a facilities area coordinator 6) Shall demonstrate minimum proficiency and safe operation under supervision
The Board shall maintain a list identifying Approved Members. The current list shall be posted in the vicinity of the lathe.
Approved membership shall be immediately revocable by the Facilities Director or facilities area coordinator should unsafe operation be observed.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRS The Approved Member agrees that repairs to the lathe equipment or facility due to misuse by the Approved Member will be repaired at the Approved Members expense as decided by the Facilities Director.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS The Approved Member agrees to avoid operation of the lathe when such operation may result in hazards to other individuals in the area. This includes, but is not limited to, unsafe proximity, need for safety equipment, distractions to the operator; and any other actions that endanger persons, equipment or work.
