Member Grants 2012
Contents
Overview
The shop was recently donated $1,200 from DeepSouth con. This money comes without strings and we're doing ok finance wise (but don't stop donating!) so the board has decided to pass the savings on to you the member!
We've divided the money up to 4 pools of $300. We're going to use this wiki page to accept proposals to vote on what you want to do with the money. This can include shop improvements, tool purchases, anything that boosts shop moral (and is legal in the state of Alabama). Add your proposal to this page so that all will know. Proposals will have to include a deadline of when this project will be completed and a detailed explanation of what you plan to do with one of the $300 pools. Feel free to include multiple proposals, but make sure they're ones that you and other named members can carry out. Each proposal should cover who (as in project leader and helpers), what (project details), when (start and completion dates), where (where in the shop this will live, where your event will take place, etc.) and why (why do you think this will improve the shop).
You're encouraged to vote for the four (4) best proposals. Add your name to the Votes line for no more than four (4) proposals. Voting and proposal suggestions end at 7:30pm CDT September 13th. Money will be allocated at the September monthly meeting.

Shelves and Storage on the South Wall
- Who: Karl Sackett and other Tool-using hominids (and the computer you are using to read this counts as a tool).
- What: Build new storage shelves along the south wall of the building. Build a wall-mounted bike rack. Rebuild the workbench in the SW corner. Include space for ladders and a lumber rack.
- When: In phases every clean-up weekend.
- Where: ML256 building, all along the south wall.
- Why: We're not making the best use of the storage space along the south wall. I propose salvaging the old shelves and building new shelves like those along the east wall. I also want to add a wall-mounted bike rack. This will open up the space now filled with hanging bikes. We'll need to keep some space for the gas grill, ladders, and the lumber rack. Finally, the workbench in the southwest corner can't be used because it's too deep and collecting junk. I want to replace it with one only two feet deep and with room for storage shelves above and below.
- How Much: < $300 for lumber and plywood. We can keep the costs down by reusing scrap lumber and salvage.
- Votes: krs, strages, Viapersona, Candleknight, JimShoe.4, Xthnru, opticron, MissScarlet, Cash, Alii, korc, Mono (talk), RAMGarden.2, brimstone.3
