Jeff attended on online seminar in 2021 by Spore, these are some notes he took:

  • Kratky system is the easiest to get into
    • This is what Greg taught Jeff to do with mason jars, net pots, rocks, and nutrient solution. Growing basil
    • only a fraction of the roots should be submerged
  • add a capful of hydrogen peroxide to green slimy roots
  • NPK nutrients
    • MaxiGro by General Hydroponics
      • 10-5-14 (NPK, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium)
        • $16 , up to 10 systems (buckets are systems)
  • HydroCrunch and HomeDepot are good sources for plant seeds
  • use a small section of pool noodle to wrap around a soil plug to fit into a net cup
  • FamilyPlot website has good intros on hydroponics
  • Recommended beginner things to brow:
    • Kale, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, basil, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, herbs
  • pests
    • whiteflies. sticky traps
    • aphids: occur when there are low amounts of magnesium
    • mold:
    • root rot: submerging roots, bundled nasty mess. allow oxygen flow to cure.
  • maintenance
    • replace nutrients every month
    • check undersides of leaves
