Overview

This is an attempt to see if it's even possible to create your own SAE J1772 electric vehicle charging station.

Here is the competition: The store-bought Level 2 30 Amp 220/240 Volt wall mount charger that charges a Chevy Volt from completely dead to full in about 4 hours instead of the 8-9 hours on a Level 1 110/120 Volt charger: http://www.lowes.com/pd_382390-296-EV2430WS_0__?productId=3585682&Ntt=electric+car&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Delectric%2Bcar&facetInfo=

It's MSRP is $800. Can we make it with a total lower cost than this? Can we make it so cheap that it is worth the time to actually make it ourselves?

Notes

The J1772 plug itself is about $170. $230-250 with 6-8 meters of high current cable. http://www.tucsonev.com/
