How CoC Violations are Handled

The Board of Directors of Makers Local 256 takes reports of Code of Conduct violations extremely seriously and violations reported to one of our Board Members will be investigated whether submitted in person or online.

The Board Member receiving the violation report will ask for details such as involved people, the location and time of the incident, and if there were any uninvolved witnesses. We may have additional follow up questions, depending on the situation.

Once the Board has the initial report, they will talk about the next steps. Depending on the severity of the violation, the Board may report the incident directly to the police. If the Board is reasonably certain that the police are not required, the following will happen:

When possible, the Board will find the offender, let them know that there was a complaint, and hear their side. Others will be consulted as necessary. The Board will then decide on a response and carry it out. This can include but is not limited to removing a member or a guest for bad behavior or restricting problematic interactions.

We may also address our membership/community to relay a summary of the violation and its resolution. Reports are treated with utmost confidentiality, and we're working on making sure that everyone knows that it is safe for people to come to the board with issues.
