How CoC Violations are Handled

We take reports of Code of Conduct violations extremely seriously. If someone reports an issue to one of our board members, we will find a safe place to talk with that person, whether that is in person, or online.

We will ask about details like who the offending person or people were, if anyone else was involved, the location and time of the incident, and if there were any witnesses. We may have additional follow up questions, depending on the situation.

Once we have the initial report, the board will talk about the next steps. Depending on the severity of the violation, the board may report the incident directly to the police. If the board is reasonably certain that the police are not required, the following will happen:

We will find the offender, let them know that there was a complaint, and hear their side. If there are others that we need to ask, we will do that. The board will then decide on a response and carry it out. If that means removing a member or a guest for bad behavior, we will do that.

We may also address our membership/community, saying that a violation had occurred and that we handled it. Reports are treated with utmost confidentiality, and we're working on making sure that everyone knows that it is safe for people to come to the board with issues.
