* I think it would be good to add a minimum time limit to when you can use a powertool (anything with a moving part) in addition to the "not while intoxicated rule."  I would rather deal with people bitching that they "have to wait X minutes after drinking a beer even though they're totally sober" than deal with mopping up blood and loosing our deposit.  That being said, I hope this rule allows me to drink and solder at the same time, I don't really think of a soldering iron as a powertool, even though you gotta plug it in.

Crashcart's comments

  • These rules were painstakingly put together and advocated by someone who dislikes excessive rules. Please appreciate that he is trying to meet some people half-way here.
  • It is purposeful that these rules are not actually PART of the bylaws. This allows us to be much more flexible at revising these rules as the needs change. (Microsoft method: ship it now, patch it later)

Spacefelix's comments:

I currently recommend the addition of the below clauses on shop cleanliness and safety. This is a good start and I second Alii's comments as well. I appreciate the flexibility for these rules.

  • Recommend that a safety section be part of the "Guidelines" section stating that safety procedures and equipment ought to be followed and used.
  • Add a 'No Tamper' rule to safety equipment for "Rules".
  • Have a "KEEP IT CLEAN" added to Guidelines 5.
    • Pending the institution of transient spaces in the shop, adapt the rules/guidelines to require/advise that transient spaces be respected and used accordingly.
