Description
Makers take over a local dollar movie theater for an evening, showing a film of their choosing. We can raise money for the shop by splitting the door with the theatre.
To bring in the maker side, we could tie in one of strages' ideas to have a chat feed at the bottom of the screen. Maybe twitter? Show some short video clips of projects at the shop?
Date Time
MrWorld has contacted the theater with an arbitrary date of August 13 or 14, with a midnight showing.
Cost
The theater will be more or less expensive depending on the date/time. It is more expensive on weekends, and even more expensive depending on what major movies are being released that week. There is no clear pricing sheet, it's done based on speculation for what the theater would stand to make with a regular showing at that time, and they charge us whatever they would need to break even. MrWorld is hoping a midnight showing would be a little cheaper.
The theater's manager said that other people who reserve theaters have been able to charge admission at the door. The theater seats 150 people.
Format
The cheaper rooms we'd be interested in are 35mm projectors, so that's the format we need. They have other rooms with digital projection, but they are obviously much more expensive because they're usually showing bigger major releases in those rooms.
