* After the opening speech, could we say something like talks start on the top of the hour, put your name on the board and time we will get you into a slot.  --[[User:Jimshoe|Jimshoe]] 15:46, 10 September 2009 (CDT)

* Also I would say no to the lunch time, just let people go to lunch when ever, we just won't have talks when no one schedules them. --[[User:Jimshoe|Jimshoe]] 15:47, 10 September 2009 (CDT)

Revision as of 15:54, 10 September 2009

Overview

An attempt to get multiple hackerspaces in the same place at the same time. Think Maker Faire meets hackercon. Want to see projects, presentations on individual hackerspaces, cool hacks, hackerspace problem/solution talks, HOW-TOs, workshops, etc.

  • Open to the public
    • No harm in inspiring new spaces.
  • Free

When

2009 September 18 - 2009 September 20

Tentative Schedule

  • A type of panel discussion where members of various hackerspaces get up before the room and present a problem with their space and let the room try and solve it. The idea being that surely there's another space that's already dealt with said problem and can offer advice.
  • Schedule will be barcamp style, user generated and handled via a whiteboard at the event.

  • When are people heading here on Friday? Couldn't we just have a meet and greet at the shop? Bring people from the hotel if need be. I guess Friday all depends on when people are planing on showing up. --Jimshoe 15:46, 10 September 2009 (CDT)
  • Opening Remarks need to just be like. Who we are. What are some of our rules. Like no illegal stuff from our internet connection. What we are going to be doing that day. --Jimshoe 15:46, 10 September 2009 (CDT)
  • After the opening speech, could we say something like talks start on the top of the hour, put your name on the board and time we will get you into a slot. --Jimshoe 15:46, 10 September 2009 (CDT)
  • Space and rocket center?? When and how much. --Jimshoe 15:46, 10 September 2009 (CDT)

Attending Hackerspaces

  • Makers Local 256, Huntsville, AL
  • Freeside, Atlanta, GA
  • Hacker Consortium, Nashville, TN
  • Cowtown Computer Congress, Kansas City, KS
  • Hak-it, Indiantown, FL
  • ibt, Gainesville, FL
  • Tx/Rx Labs, Houston, TX
  • foulabs, Montreal, Quebec, CA

Discussion

  • Perhaps try and get a discounted rate or free access to the Space & Rocket Center. [DONE!]
  • Possible schwag being something hackable.
    • Definitely want the schwag to be useful.
    • strages and nykodemus are working on badges
  • Do we all like the name "metaspace"? Or "the metaspace con"? [DONE! metaspac.es is bought... website coming soon]

Ideas for Events

  • Makeshop overnight "camp-in" at 403 Brown Street
    • This is something I have been wanting to do for a while. We would have to come up with a project that would be amazing. Then plan it out so we know how much time and money it would take. Might be something to discuss with other groups and see what they think. --Jimshoe 09:57, 3 August 2009 (CDT)
  • 2-hour make-a-thon, 6-hour make-a-thon
    • Maybe we build a bartender robot? A Barbot? -MrWorld
    • Will materials be gathered ahead of time, or during the meetup? -MrWorld
  • Panel discussions on overcoming various hackerspace problems
  • Hackerspace show-n-tell
  • Maybe arrange a live feed from BruCon_2009 and vice versa. --74.95.48.254 [via hackerspaces.org] 04:41, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Maybe a how-to on setting up semantic mediawiki, explanation of use, and a linkup that follows. --strages 15:04, 4 August 2009 (CDT)
    • Perhaps a how-to on setting up for the federation talked about in a recent hackerspaces.org thread. --Brimstone 15:17, 4 August 2009 (CDT)
  • MrWorld and the screen printing students can make con schwag for attendees, or the attendees can pull the screens themselves. -MrWorld 13:00, 11 August 2009 (CDT)
    • print tshirts or badges with ARG-objects on front? Would need prototyping, but hypothetically possible
  • Shitty Movie Night with an irc channel visible in the bottom of the screen for live riffing. -MrWorld 13:00, 11 August 2009 (CDT)
  • A scheduled time-slot for other shops to present their projects
  • Can we have an official schedule of events? I'm afraid it looks like we're not up to much, and we're asking people to travel a long way when there won't be much going on, judging from the official schedule and what we've released so far.
