[hide]Overview
Goal is to create a kitchen computer for displaying recipes.
Hardware
- Raspberry Pi 4
- SD Card
- Touch Screen Monitor That works with linux: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BBLFOY4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- Microphone \ Speakers
- Keyboard and mouse for initial setup
Stretch Goal Hardware
- Wifi Camera pointing down over oven range
- Heat Tolerant Camera for inside of oven (not sure how this would work, can't be wifi cause of faraday cage aspects of oven)
Operating System Candidates
- LineageOS (Android): https://konstakang.com/devices/rpi4/LineageOS16.0/
- Note, do not follow instructions telling you to wipe after installing gapps. This will cause the lineageOS to startup in a mode that pops up the unregistered device notification that can't be closed, preventing you from getting to terminal and running the command to retrieve the GSFAID.
- Raspian
Ideal Software
Android
After Action: Apps did not run ideally, Some would come up in portrait mode and could not be changed. Some would continuously crash. If I were to come back to running android on a touchscreen, I would get a USBC dock and a phone that supports USB OTG and use that as the hardware instead of a raspberry Pi.
Cooking Apps
- https://www.sidechef.com/
- Allrecipes
- This application has been crashing when scrolling to bottom with mouse. Need to test with touch screen to see if crash occurs.
- Flavorly: This is the application installed on the GE Kitchen Hub
Experience Improvement
- Some kind of split screen functionality. Currently apps have to support this, but maybe there's another way?
Raspbian
Usability
- Install Matchbox-Keyboard
- On Rasbpian Desktop Toolbar, add keyboard application
